چکیده

We report on new Australian Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) observations of SNR J0519–6902. The Supernova Remnant (SNR) is small in size (∼8 pc) and exhibits a typical SNR spectrum with α = −0.53± 0.07, with steeper spectral indices towards the northern limb of the remnant. SNR J0519–6902 contains a low level of radially orientated polarisation at wavelengths of 3 and 6 cm, which is typical of younger SNRs. A fairly strong magnetic field was estimated to ∼171 μG. The remnant appears to be the result of a typical Type Ia supernova, sharing many properties with another small and young Type Ia LMC SNR, J0509–6731.

Measuring Dust Production in the Small Magellanic Cloud Core-collapse Supernova Remnant 1e0102.2−7219

We present mid-infrared spectral mapping observations of the core-collapse supernova remnant 1E 0102.2−7219 in the Small Magellanic Cloud using the InfraRed Spectrograph (IRS) on the Spitzer Space Telescope. The remnant shows emission from fine structure transitions of neon and oxygen as well as continuum emission from dust. Comparison of the mid-IR dust emission with observations at x-ray, rad...

Supernova Remnants in the Magellanic Clouds V : The Complex Interior Structure of the N 206 SNR

The N206 supernova remnant (SNR) in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) has long been considered a prototypical " mixed morphology " SNR. Recent observations , however, have added a new twist to this familiar plot: an elongated, radially-oriented radio feature seen in projection against the SNR face. Utilizing the high resolution and sensitivity available with the Hubble Space Telescope , Chandra,...

Supernova Remnants in the Magellanic Clouds IV: X-ray Emission from the Largest SNR in the LMC

We present the first X-ray detection of SNR 0450−70.9, the largest known supernova remnant (SNR) in the Large Magellanic Cloud. To study the physical conditions of this SNR, we have obtained XMM-Newton X-ray observations, optical images and high-dispersion spectra, and radio continuum maps. Optical images of SNR 0450−70.9 show a large, irregular elliptical shell with bright filaments along the ...

Spitzer Space Telescope Detection of the Young Supernova Remnant 1e 0102.2-7219

We present infrared observations of the young, oxygen-rich supernova remnant 1E 0102.2-7219 (E0102) in the Small Magellanic Cloud, obtained with the Spitzer Space Telescope. The remnant is detected at 24 μm but not at 8 or 70 μm and has a filled morphology with two prominent filaments. We find evidence for the existence of up to 8× 10 M⊙ of hot dust (Td ∼ 120 K) associated with the remnant. Mos...

The Evolving ISM in the Milky Way & Nearby Galaxies SMC Observations of Dust in the Small Magellanic Cloud Supernova Remnant 1E 0102.2−7219

The quantity and composition of dust produced in core-collapse supernovae is a matter of much debate. Observations of dust around quasars at high redshift have been explained via models invoking efficient dust production, with typical yields of 0.1-1 M⊙ of dust per supernova. Observations of supernovae and their remnants, however, have yet to provide evidence for efficient dust production. Obse...
